It's Never Been Easier to be a Man (or a Woman)
But because of how easy it is, it's harder than ever. A strange paradox of sorts, and a potential solution ...
It has never been easier to be X — and here, you can replace “X” with just about any identity you can imagine. In today’s postmodern clownworld, whatever you want to be, you can be. It’s that simple.
For example, it’s never been easier to be a man. The standards for “being a man” are lower than they’ve ever been. You don’t even need balls. You can have a vagina. You can even be pregnant! If you say you’re a man, you are magically a man, and the regime will encourage you to take pride in your manliness too (but only if you were assigned a gender other than male at birth)!
Same thing with being a woman: it’s never been easier. You can have male genitalia, a deep voice, and a full beard. Or if you prefer, you can go the Dylan Mulvaney route and wear a dress, act like a 6-year-old girl, and call yourself a princess. It doesn’t matter who you are or how you behave. All that matters is that you claim to be a woman, and voilà, you are a woman.
Your identity is purely a matter of faith! Just name it and claim it! Simply believe, and ye shall receive! Be it unto you according to your faith! No other rites of passage or accomplishments or character virtues are required.
Here’s the best part: although there are no duties for you to fulfill, you get to impose duties onto everyone else. All you have to do is order everyone else to perceive you a certain way, and they are thereby obligated (in some cases under penalty of law) to perceive you that way — or at least to pretend publicly that they do. (And if they refuse, the regime has ways of enforcing their compliance, or failing that, of preventing them from ever sharing their point of view publicly.) Pretty sweet deal!
But even though it’s never been easier to be whatever you want to imagine yourself to be, it has, oddly enough, never been more difficult, because nothing really means anything anymore. If anyone can be a man just by claiming he is, then what even is a man? Same thing with being a woman. Same thing with just about anything that used to be worth being: it now means so little, that hardly anyone cares if you are a good version of it.
