A great example of the dangers of "it doesn't matter if it is cogent or rational, it is emotionally satisfying" kind of thinking. The villains get to claim to be standing up for the very people who their lack of responsibility is damaging. It is always emotionally satisfying to blame a common enemy, but in reality your real enemy might be those who claim to be on your side, looking out for your best interests...

Exactly. Like trusting the proverbial fox who is eager to guard the henhouse and professes the most compassionate and charitable regard for the hens' wellbeing, and as long as the fox says the right things, so many folks will happily vote for him and support his agenda.

Indeed. It is the liars and crazies apparently on our own side who are the most dangerous to us, as we are the most easily taken in by their nonsense.
