Good to see you contemplating the mystery.

Thanks! "Mystery" is the right word for it. Reminds me of the opening scenes in the movie "Dark City." It's like we wake up in the middle of a crime scene, unsure what happened, who we are, how we got there, or what it all means.

Fantastic essay!

This quote is quite incredible, given the current state of the world:

"I have great hopes that we shall learn in due time how to emotionalise and mythologise their science to such an extent that what is, in effect, a belief in us (though not under that name) will creep in while the human mind remains closed to belief in the Enemy."

It sounds as if Lewis predicted the rise of "scientism" that we are seeing in the world today ..!

Truly insightful! ... perhaps Provocative may be a better word... Whatever the word that best applies, a genuine consideration and deeper study is definitely in order.

Thank you!

Excellent stuff; thank you!

I do think, though, that seeking out something like a categorical imperative is a worthy endeavor, even if it cannot answer all questions, and even if implementing it in practice poses challenges.

For example,

Coercive force must not be initiated against any unwilling person,

and

The explicit consent of the human person is required for any transaction or imposition of authority, force, or governance.

I think we can derive those via induction, deduction, and intuition, as I attempt to do here: https://christophercook.substack.com/p/is-any-government-morally-permissible

Thank you, sir! Will check out your post, and I admire anyone's attempt to codify as much as possible some formulation of universal moral/legal principles, with the obvious caveat that a good will and a virtuous character are necessary to reliably and beneficially apply those moral/legal principles. Kind of a chicken-and-egg problem, but one that seems to be inescapable.
