It really is sad, what a joke it's become. Mark Milley and Lloyd Austin perfectly embody everything that's wrong with America today. They and their ilk truly lead from the rear (as in, rear end).
Perhaps in a rediscovery of our proposed greatness we will celebrate by actually living the ideals put forth in the preamble of our original founding document... that would be novel indeed... and something to be genuinely proud of.
I served for 25 years both active and Air Guard. When I was a young officer I had role models - both superior officers and NCO's - who I respected, admired, and who I tried to emulate. They lived up to standards that they expected me to meet or exceed, and I tried to pass that same expectation on to those I was entrusted to supervise or command.
I view today's military with a mixed sense of sadness, anger, and astonishment. It's disappointing and perplexing to see the results oriented meritocracy I experienced being replaced by this neo-marxist social experiment.
In many ways, the military is a reflection of the general population and given the present state of morality and lack of patriotism, perhaps the current rot in the military is unsurprising. Sadly.
I can't follow why Americans stopped believing in their civic religion. Something to do with consumerism, drugs, competing religions, I guess. Americans became degenerate and lost the (mythic?) heroic masculine/military spirit?
If I may offer my critique: by overthrowing the aristocracy (privilege, obligation, honor) and divine order (separating church from the state) they opened a Pandora's box of sorts.

It would be nice to rediscover The Federalist Papers and the Articles of Confederation.
A good reminder that reflexively doing the opposite of what you dislike isn't wisdom.
Exactly. And it makes you just as predictable to your enemies, and therefore, just as easy to manipulate.
